When Paul saw that the grace of God was sufficient, he was able to say, “Therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities (weaknesses) that the power of Christ may rest upon me…for when I am weak then am I strong.  Paul realized that within himself he was weak but that because he had Christ in him, he was able to say like John in 1st John 4:4: “I have overcome them: because greater is He that is in me, than he that is in the world.” As you follow after Paul in the Scriptures, you have to notice that he was an overcome…and he overcame the “thorn in the flesh.”

The Apostle Paul enumerates the many buffetings but never once mentions sickness, or opthalmia.  The single thing that Paul does NOT mention, tradition seizes upon it and makes his “thorn” a sickness.  To say that Paul’s “Thorn in the flesh” was a sickness is certainly inspired by the enemy, because it gives him the privilege of carrying on his evil work of afflicting and tormenting the bodies of humanity.  If you are experiencing sickness in your body, in tomorrow’s blog I will give you some “steps” that you can apply to put you on the road to recovery.

It is easier to stay well than to get healed, but, God in His Grace and Mercy has provided healing and deliverance for us all. Here are some suggested steps you might take if you “fall behind.”                                                                                     1. Renew your mind in the subject of healing (Rom. 12:2, James 1:8).                                                                               2. Be submitted to God and resist the devil (James 4:7).                                                                                                   3. Believe and confess the Word “by whose stripes ye were healed” (1 Pet. 2:24).                                                               4. Hold fast your confession (Heb. 10:23).                                                                                                                         5. Fight the good fight (1Tim. 6:12).                                                                                                                                 6. Stand in God’s strength not your own. (Eph. 6:10).                                                                                                       7. Don’t take “no” as an answer (Mat. 6:10).                                                                                                                     8. Quit abusing your body.

The Word works when YOU put it to work, and YOU ARE WELL ABLE.

Looking forward to joining with all of you tomorrow as we Lift up Jesus TOGETHER!

God INHABITS the praises of His people, and praise stills the works of the enemy…the enemy CANNOT operate and function when we create an atmosphere of praise…I believe it is a Japanese translation that says in reference to God inhabiting our praise; which says “we make a BIG CHAIR for God to sit in!”  Isn’t that wonderful?  SHOUT AMEN SOMEBODY!

Hebrews 6:12 “That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through FAITH AND PATIENCE inherit the promises.” James 1:2-4 “My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into diverse temptations; knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh PATIENCE.  But let PATIENCE have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.”  (emphasis mine)  Patience is a working force, if our faith begins to waiver, patience comes to faith’s aid to make it stand.  I liken patience as the support beams that hold up a bridge, the bridge will get you over the canyon or river (temptation or trial) but patience is the support beams that hold the bridge up so it won’t fall when you are on the bridge.

Since faith is the substance of things hoped for, patience without faith has no substance.  On the other hand, faith without patience many times will fail to stand firm on the evidence of the written Word that gives us “title deed” to things not perceived of by the senses.  Jesus told Peter in Luke 22:32 “But I have prayed for thee, that thy FAITH FAIL NOT: and when thou art converted, strengthen they brethren.” (emphasis mine) Without the power of patience at work, sense knowledge–the things we perceived with our senses–can overwhelm our faith that is based on what the Word of God says.  But, I HAVE GOOD NEWS….PATIENCE WILL UNDERGIRD OUR FAITH AND WILL GIVE US THE ENDURANCE TO PERSEVERE UNTIL THE ANSWER MANIFESTS ITSELF.  Can I get an Amen?   I can’t hear you!  SHOUT UNTO GOD WITH A VOICE OF TRIUMPH!

Faith of course is a very powerful force.  It always is working.  But, without the power of patience, we stop the force of faith from working in our lives because of our negative words and actions.  It’s OUR faith, and we can either put it into action or stop it from working.  Too many people think of patience as just accepting the situations that come along as “just the way things are,” and try to adjust ourselves to be satisfied with whatever happens.  That is not at all what BIBLE PATIENCE is.  It is a real force that has to be developed.  Titus 2:2 says that we are to be sound or developed in patience.

In Titus 2:2, we are not only supposed to be sound or developed in patience, but also in our faith.  Faith AND patience work together the way faith AND love work together.  Each force plays a unique role in our Christian lives.  What happens sometimes, is that we substitute one for the other.  For instance, Hebrews 11:1 says that faith is the substance of things hoped for.  Hope without faith has no substance.  People will sometimes say that they are “hoping and praying.”  Religiously this sounds, but it has no substance.  In that case, HOPE is being confused with FAITH.  Without the substance of faith, that kind of praying will not produce results.  In a critical situation of life, this could be very devastating.  We need to have our thinking straightened out according to the Word of God, so we can use these forces properly and produce God’s perfect will in our lives.

WOW, what a wonderful group we had last night at intercessory prayer…thanks so much to all of you…we’re growing!

One of the most common traditions and mistakes in this area of believing is that trials and tribulations develop faith.  Trials and tribulations DO NOT develop faith.  Romans 10:17 says, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Trials and tribulations will develop PATIENCE.  We have already seen from James 1 that this is true.  The Apostle Paul says the same thing in Romans 5:3 “And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;” Faith is developed as we ACT on the Word of God.  Hebrews 12:2 states that Jesus is the Author and Finisher, or Developer of our faith.  It doesn’t say that satan is the developer of our faith.
