Today, there are still tribes that make covenants with each other in other parts of the world.  The covenants are for various purposes, of course, and the covenant is only as good as the tribe’s word.  In times past if one tribe member broke their word the other tribe would literally hunt them down and kill them.  Covenants were a very serious thing.  People are only as good as their words.  If their word is not good, they can’t be trusted.  If we are not in the habit of keeping our words, then it is almost impossible to trust God and His Word. Can I get an ‘oh-me?’

Proverbs 25:19 “Confidence is an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.”

Have you ever tried to eat with a bad tooth or walk on a broken foot?  IT HURTS!!!!  So will trying to depend on an unfaithful man.  God NEVER, NEVER, NEVER breaks one of His Words.  God is faithful to His Word.  If He ever broke His Word (Covenant) He would have to destroy Himself (remember, He said that He swore by Himself). EVERYTHING would become non-existent.  But thank God HE WILL NEVER BREAK HIS WORD..not even to man.  It is impossible for God to lie…He won’t do it….GOD IS FAITHFUL!  We need to get that fixed in our hearts! And practice keeping our words.

ARE YOU GETTING READY FOR SUNDAY?

Abraham knew about covenants.  The people in his day practiced them.  Abraham knew Who he was in covenant with…ALMIGHTY GOD!  Abraham did try to get God to do things his way.  He tried to convince the Lord to go ahead and bless Ishmael his son through Hagar his concubine.   Abraham and Sarah even laughed about the idea about them having a child together, because he was ninety-nine and she was ninety years old.  However, God said I will bless Ishmael, BUT THE PROMISE IS THROUGH ISAAC. God doesn’t change His Word.

Praise the Lord for His Presence in our service yesterday…..GOD IS SOOOOO GOOD!

We’re back sorry for our server being down, we all probably have this “love/hate” relationship with computers.tongue-out Having said that, let’s see what the Lord has for YOU today as we continue in looking at God’s covenant and Abraham.

Abraham was in covenant with God, which was his basis for faith.  Now, let’s look at what Abraham did to obtain the promise of God.

Hebrews 4:17-21 “(As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations.)  Before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.  Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.  And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet they deadness of Sarah’s womb: He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith giving glory to God;  And being fully persuaded that, what he (God) had promised, he was able also to perform.

I believe that we can glean loads of information from these Scriptures, however I would like to point out that Abraham did FOUR THINGS to obtain the promise made to him.

NUMBER ONE: He had the Promise of God regarding the matter. In verse 17 it says: “As it is written….” It is important that we have the promise of God regarding our situations.  If we do not, then we have no basis for faith. (to be continued)

Tonight: Praise and Worship team practice @5:00pm, followed by WARFARE ON WEDNESDAY @7:00pm

Continuing on from yesterday Romans 4:17-21; the four things we see in Scripture that Abraham did to obtain the promise mad to him:

!. HE HAD THE PROMISE OF GOD REGARDING THE MATTER; (verse 17) it is important that we have the promise of God regarding our situations.  If we do not, we have no basis for faith.

2. HE BELIEVED THE PROMISE THROUGH HIS WORDS AND ACTIONS; (verse 18) Abraham did as God said and changed his name to say “Father of Many Nations,” and Sarah conceived.

3. HE DID NOT CONSIDER THE PROBLEM; (verse 19) Abraham thought on and talked the promise.  By doing this he became “FULLY PERSUADED” that what God had promised he was able also to perform.

4. HE GAVE GLORY TO GOD EVEN BEFORE HE SAW THE ANSWER; (VERSE 20) Abraham was so convinced in his heart about the promise, he gave God praise and thanksgiving long before he saw the answer.

These four principles are key to us receiving  the promises God has made to us.

Other than the four principles that Abraham did, there is also something else that we need to understand.  Since we live in a “time” sphere of influence, we sometimes look at natural time realm rather than the spiritual realm. As far as God looks at His Word, it is ALWAYS NOW (Hebrews 11:1).  But, in the natural sense there is also SEED, TIME and HARVEST (Genesis 8:22). This is especially true in the area of finances.  God’s Will is that we prosper and be in health even as our SOUL PROSPERS (mind, will and emotions….thinker, doer and willer).  For instance you don’t work you don’t eat….if you don’t have a job at this particular time, YOUR JOB is to FIND A JOB!  Which is not sitting at home waiting for someone to knock on your door and hand you the CEO position of a fortune 500 hundred company.  Financial prosperity begins with you having a job, and believing that GOD IS YOUR SOURCE and the job is the present means of God supplying your needs.  I have heard some people say that “they were laying before the Lord,” when in reality they were sleeping!  Get God’s Word on your situation, and then do everything you can do to act like it is so!

WONDER WOMEN TOMORROW @9:30am.

In Abraham’s situation it took only one year for the first part of God’s promise to show up: Isaac.  But the promise to Abraham is  still working today as people are born into the Family of God everyday.  Spiritually speaking we are the seed of Abraham!  In any case, however, if we follow these four principles of Abraham’s faith we will also obtain the promises of God. God will not give us promises that we are not able to obtain.  God is a good God and wants us to have not just life, but LIFE ABUNDANTLY! SHOUT AMEN SOMEBODY!

Did you know that there is a “Mason-Dixon” line in the Word of God?  It is found in John 10:10; “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”  On one side you have stealing, killing and destroying; on the other side LIFE ABUNDANTLY! I kind of look at this as a “no-brainer” to which side  to choose. The Lord is on my side!  And I am on HIS SIDE! AMEN!

Yesterday’s trivia: David, 2nd Samuel 24:18.

Hebrews 11:6 “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”  If you were like me, you were probably raised with an attitude of “I’ll believe it when I see it.”  Even one of the disciples of the Lord Jesus was like that, and it displeased the Lord.  Faith says I have it now before I physically see it; faith says  believing is seeing;  faith takes hold of the unrealities of hope and brings them into existence.  Abraham’s faith gives God thanks and praise BEFORE it sees the answer (in the natural) and gives Glory to God.  Tomorrow we are going to look at the “Thomas faith” from the Word.

Yesterday’s trivia: Adonijah, 1st Kings 1:50.
