In Luke 2:8, the Word says, “And there were in the same country shepherds abiding i the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.” These were “special” shepherds who were watching “special” sheep. The field is called the Shepherd’s field, and it was the field in which sheep were being raised that would be offered in the temple. These sheep were holy and consecrated to God. They were sacrificial lambs to be presented by the priests in the temple for the people’s sin. These shepherds had been given a very serious responsibility…to raise and care for sacrificial lambs.

FUN FACTS ABOUT CHRISTMAS SONGS: The first mention of Santa Claus in a Christmas tune was 1864’s Up On The Housetop by Benjamin Hanby. He was inspired to write the song after reading the 1823 poem A Visit from Saint Nicholas by Clement Moore.
