Matthew 26:53, “Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?” Jesus willingly giving His life for all mankind, He could have enlisted the aid of twelve legions of angels but He chose not to because of His Love for us. Let’s look at the possibility of twelve legions of angels and the power that would represent. In Isaiah 37:35, ONE angel killed 185,000 men in the enemy’s camp. Since one angel could destroy 185,000 the combined strength in a legion (6,000) could wipe out 1 billion, 100 million men…that is ONE LEGION. Now, do the math 12 legions: 72,000 angels could take out 13 billion 320 men…that is about twice the population of the earth today.
