John 18:3, “Judas then, having received a BAND OF MEN and OFFICERS from the chief priests and Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weapons.” Look at how many soldiers came to get Jesus. The phrase “band of men” describes a military cohort, which is one-tenth of a legion, or approximately 600 soldiers. These were well-trained fighters who were equipped with the finest weaponry of the day and who reported to the chief priest. Also, came the police officers who worked on the temple grounds. They were brutal individuals who worked hand-in-hand with the “band of men”….they assisted the Roman cohort of soldiers.
