Dr. Carver when addressing the United States Ways and Means Committee was initially given 20 minutes to talk, but after hearing what he had to say, the chairman said “go ahead brother, your time is unlimited.” Dr. Carver spoke for an hour and forty-five minutes. The Chairman of the committee asked him, “How did you learn all these things?” “From an old book,” he answered. “What book?” a Senator asked. Carver replied, “The Bible.” The Senator then asked, “Does the Bible teach us about peanuts?” “No sir, but it tells us about the God who made the peanut. I asked Him to show me what to do with the peanut and He did.”
